Mensaje de Iván Duque, Presidente de Colombia, anfitrión global del Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente

presidente duque dia mundial medio ambiente

Message from Iván Duque, President of Colombia, host country of World Environment Day

"For me, it is a true honour as the President of Colombia to be the host of this important day for humanity, the World Environment Day”, said President of Colombia, Iván Duque, during the official celebration event, broadcast live.

"We are in a time of deep reflections on nature, on climate change, on how we should behave, on what the ethics of our society should be, to protect species and ecosystems," he said.

"There is no doubt that we are living now the most complex times that humanity has lived in many years, on the occasion of COVID-19," said the President.

“But it is also true that the great theme of our time is our ability to change trends in the face of climate change and global warming. Climate change has devastating effects on many ecosystems. Climate change threatens biodiversity, threatens our glaciers, and of course, also ends up rising sea levels that affect the sustainability of many coastal environments and many populations. So, this is the great issue of our time," he warned.

"Latin America and the Caribbean has to become more and more present with its voice and its actions. On this World Environment Day, we will all raise our voices, because we are facing a pandemic, it is true, but our aspiration cannot be to go back to the way we were before, but to overcome this pandemic as a better society," said Duque.
