Ali Abdo, a sustainability and environmental activist campaigning for greater development of electric vehicles, holds the Guinness World Record for greatest distance on an electric motorcycle in 24 hours: 919.87 km in 2021.
Ahead of World Environment Day, he rode his electric motorcycle through Egyptian cities around the River Nile to meet students and government officials and deliver talks focused on the impacts of the climate crisis.

LG, The South Korean electronics giant, has launched a campaign by Tilda, an artificial intelligence artist to cut down on digital waste and carbon emissions.
The launch on World Environment Day 2022, in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), follows Tilda’s successful debut at the New York Fashion Week in February.

Twenty-four school children in Queanbeyan–Palerang, New South Wales, are using the popular video game Minecraft to re-envision their local community and incorporate sustainable living aspects to embody the idea of living in harmony with nature.
The young people aged 5–17 have shared their creations, at a Queanbeyan–Palerang Regional Council public screening ceremony showcasing the designs with commentary from their creators describing how they presented the World Environment Day theme. Some of these included expanded green spaces featuring plenty of trees and flowers, communal gardens for fresh produce, and buildings with solar panels.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has pledged to plant 50,000 trees over the next year.
To celebrate World Environment Day 2022, the KMC also organised a walk through the city.

World Environment Day host country Sweden has announced a ban on issuing new licenses for the extraction of coal, oil, and natural gas from 1 July this year to protect people and planet.
Announcing the ban at the official World Environment Day celebrations in Stockholm, Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment, Annika Strandhäll, said, “Making the green jobs of the future by accelerating the climate transition is one of the top priorities for the Swedish government. As part of our efforts to implement our climate ambitions, we must take actions against activities that have a negative impact on our health and our environment.”

To celebrate World Environment Day 2022, Malaysia Airlines have announced that on 5 June, their flights from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur will use a blend of sustainable aviation fuel.
The airline will operate Boeing 737-800 aircraft using 38 per cent sustainable fuel. More on the story here.
David Parker, the Environment Minister of New Zealand, announced on World Environment Day that it would launch a million-dollar project to breathe life back into the Styx River.
Not only would the project create jobs but it would tackle environmental degradation. Over the next five years, the project will create around 43 full-time jobs, which will focus on eradicating pest plants and protecting freshwater quality.
