Dia Mirza, model, filmmaker, actress and UN Environment Programme Goodwill Ambassador, has launched a plea on World Environment Day to ditch plastic.
With The Times of India, Mirza has launched the Unplastic India initiative to minimize single-use plastic.
Celebrations for World Environment Day 2023 kicked off in host-country Cote d’Ivoire, as millions of people prepare for similar activities across the world. Venues across the capital city, Abidjan – from its historic lagoon to its first modern art museum - shone the spotlight on this year’s theme #BeatPlasticPollution.

The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released a podcast highlighting MarinaTex, a compostable single-use plastic substitute.
The plastic alternative is made out of fish waste and algae and biodegrades in soil without causing harm to wildlife or humans.
